Fish@EyesInTheWoods – Volunteer Assistance The fish programs at ‘Eyes In The Woods” (EIW) are a new and exciting opportunity to contribute to the enhancement and protection of Washington’s aquatic resources. Two types of programs will be offered in the initial phase of EIW cooperative fish projects, “Streamwatch” and “Volunteer Assistance” activities. Following are “Volunteer Assistance” guidelines. Project/Volunteer Assistance: Project assistance applications may be submitted to fishnbooks@att.net for fisheries related activities. Fish biologists, community, county, state and federal agencies along with local clubs may request assistance from EIW members through this process. The accepted project application will be relayed to all members in the related area who are accessible by e-mail (most members). With most projects the individuals requesting assistance will be responsible for project coordination, submitting volunteer hour timesheets, and reporting annual project results to fish@eyesinthewoods. See the “Volunteer Assistance” section. Process: 1) A project volunteer assistance application may be obtained directly from the fisheries EIW website or by requesting one from fishnbooks@att.net. The completed application should be mailed to Jay Hunter, 3031 36th Ave NW, Olympia WA. 98502-3750. 2) The application will be reviewed for completeness, acceptability of project (must be acceptable to WDFW), and assignment to the correct EIW program. At least thirty days notice prior to project initiation is preferred, but efforts will be made to notify members of any volunteer opportunity from an accepted application. Upon acceptance the applicant will be notified and sent a copy of the information disseminated to members. 3) Project types : Fisheries projects are expected to vary greatly and be quite diverse. Fish projects may include planting oyster spat, working with crabs or shellfish, assisting hatcheries, doing lake or stream research with fish biologists, or sponsoring a watershed protection project through “Streamwatch”. 4) The volunteer assistance applicant will be responsible for project coordination, reporting of volunteer hours and submitting an annual or end of project summary of accomplishments and volunteer hours.
The Eyes In The Woods staff is excited about the implementation of the fisheries side of EIW volunteer projects. We look forward to working with you to provide assistance on many needed projects and working for the enhancement and protection of Washington’s aquatic resources.
