Project Description:
Improve habitat conditions in pre-commercially thinned areas of the Olympic National Forest. This is a mature project that has been underway since 2014. We use electric and gas powered chain saws and lots of labor to open travel lanes and create other habitat for elk/deer forage, and specialty habitats for bear and small mammal denning, salamanders, forest birds etc.
Response from area wildlife has been spectacular as most species have returned to treated areas.
The work party is a 2 day comfortable camping event where we provide food and shelter in exchange for 2 days of work on the project. We are basing out of the WDFW Clearwater Cabin or the US Forest Service offices in Quinault and accommodate rv's and tents also.
HOW TO SIGN UP:
WDFW uses an online system to make it easier for volunteers to learn about volunteer opportunities and participate. This Community Event Registration and Volunteer Information System, or CERVIS, tracks projects and volunteer hours.
First, potential volunteers must register using a simple online form (or log in to CERVIS if they already have an account) then review the volunteer opportunities that are available.
